Year 9 HE Day (1st February)
On 1st February, a group of year 9 students visited Leeds Beckett University for a Higher Experience day.
A typical HE day focuses on raising aspiration and motivation alongside providing pre entry guidance and encouraging progression into higher education. It provides pupils with an excellent grounding from which to make informed choices about their future career path.
The day includes a campus tour, mini lecture covering university courses, finance, living away from home and a choice of subject specific workshops.
Subject specific workshops allow students to gain an insight into different courses on offer within Higher Education which they may never have considered. At the same time, financial advice is given with regards to bursaries, student loans and grants which make university more accessible than pupils may have thought.
“I learnt about all of the courses that Leeds University has to offer”
Change is Power (14th February)
On 14th February, year 10 students attended the ‘Change is Power’ event at the University of Sheffield.
The event was delivered by ‘Enactus’, a Social Enterpise student lead group at the University of Sheffield who believe that enterprise is about having an idea and making it happen.
They worked with students and taught them how they could use social enterprise as a tool for imagining solutions to the UN’s sustainability goals; the interactive workshop encouraged students to think deeply about how they can use their own creativity to create solutions to some of the world’s biggest issues with the help of the Enactus student members who shared their knowledge and expertise.
The students were engaged throughout the event and were fully engrossed in all of the activities
After the event, 10 out of 12 pupils said they would consider going to University.
“I enjoyed learning the difference between a Business and a Social Enterprise”
“I enjoyed working as part of a team and everyone was really friendly”
