Welcome to Westborough High School

Dear future Westborough pupil and parents/carers,

Firstly, I’d like to extend a warm welcome to you from all of the staff at Westborough High School. The transition from primary to secondary school can be both an exciting and anxious process for any young person – we feel that preparation is the key to a smooth transition.

We are delighted to announce that we will be inviting all prospective pupils to Westborough High School transition day on Tuesday 2nd July 2024. Pupils will experience a ‘snapshot’ of the Westborough way of learning and be given the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the school, staff and classmates.

Members of the Westborough team will also be visiting primary schools throughout this half term to ensure your child is empowered with all the information necessary to get off to the best possible start in September.

In the meantime, please explore the transition website, and read and sign the documents found in the Important Documents section. These need to be completed before Monday 24 June 2024. If you have any queries or concerns regarding transition day or joining us in September, please feel free to get in touch via the following email address: ehimsworth@w-h-s.org.uk.

The staff at Westborough High School look forward to meeting you very soon!

Mrs Emma Himsworth
Progress Leader – Year 7&8

FAQs

Transition day will take place on Tuesday 2nd July 2024 at 9.00am. Here you will be able to access a range of exciting activities, which will help you feel prepared for life at Westborough High School.

Your child is expected to attend transition day in their primary school uniform, bring a drink and a packed lunch/free school meal from your primary school, any essential medication (e.g. inhaler) and completed data collection form.

We understand how important it is for your child to feel comfortable when they join us in September and familiar faces will be a big part of this. Your child will spend the day with other new year 7 pupils and will meet several subject teachers, their Progress Leader and their Year Leader.

All Westborough pupils are expected to wear full uniform (see ‘uniform’ section for further details), a school bag large enough for an A4 folder, PE kit, pencil case, x2 black pens, pencil, ruler, rubber and sharpener. Pupil planners and timetables will be provided shortly after the start of the academic year.

Details of the school day are outlined in the ‘Moving up to Westborough High School‘ booklet. Pupils are expected to arrive at school no later than 8:25am. Please be aware that the gate closes at 8.25 a.m and pupils arriving after this time will be issued an after school detention. Early Kick off – Breakfast Club is open to any pupils who arrive from 7:30am onwards.  However, further details for your child’s first week at Westborough will be provided in due course.

Pupils will enter the school via the gate at the Main Entrance on Stockhill Street and pupils leave school through the same gate.

We use a cashless payment system at Westborough and Parent Pay is used as an online payment method to pay for school dinners, trips and other resources. Look out for your #ParentPay activation letter which will be sent home with pupils on Transition Day and activate your account as soon as possible. If your child is entitled to a free school meal, please see the ‘information’ section for further details on how to apply.

Pupils are not allowed mobile phones at Westborough High School for several reasons (e.g. safeguarding, distraction from learning). If seen or heard in school, mobile phones will be confiscated by a member of staff and returned at the end of term. If your child needs to make an important phone call (e.g. travel arrangements), they will be able to do so in Student Services.

Outstanding attendance is important for your child to achieve their full potential. If your child is unable to attend due to illness, please contact school no later than 8:45am, stating your child’s name and reason for absence. If your child is absent for 3 or more consecutive days, a member of staff may visit the family home for a brief welfare check. Tel: 01924 469549.

You can get in touch by contacting the school via telephone on 01924 469549 or sending an email to ehimsworth@w-h-s.org.uk. A member of staff will respond as soon as possible.
