On Thursday 4th April, over seventy Year 8 students had a fantastic opportunity to participate in a French cuisine event. French food specialists came to Westborough High School to teach us about French gastronomy. They told us many interesting facts about French food, what they had done and where they worked to become specialists in this area. They were interesting and they shared some amusing facts with us.

The guests that we welcomed were: Tina and Patrick from Croissant d’Or, a French bakery in Leeds and Vince and Sarah, formerly of Le Gavroche, London.

The product I enjoyed the most from Croissant d’Or was the croissant and the pain au chocolat which were delicious, butter and yummy. I also really enjoyed the baguette and the ‘scoubidou’ – a Nutella pastry – that was scrumptious. I have learnt that French bakery products are fresh and are eaten on the same day that they are cooked. French food has a totally different and amazing taste and everything we tried was made from French ingredients!

After tasting the amazing breads and pastries, we made our own crêpes. We were so excited! As my crêpe topping, I chose Chantilly cream, bananas, white chocolate and milk chocolate curls. Then I added caramel sauce, which was great, and I topped this with icing sugar and chocolate sauce. It was delicious and it had lots of different flavours to it. Next, we had the chance to ask questions and I discovered that Vince worked in a Michelin starred restaurant and then used his experience to work in a company called Mars. We found out lots of intriguing facts.

Overall, it was an amazing experience – it was fantastique! Miam miam!
