As the headteacher of Westborough High School, I place great emphasis on academic success.  Pupils are encouraged and supported to be the best they can be.  It is important that pupils of all abilities achieve highly and I am keen to build on the number of top grades achieved, as well as the number of students achieving grades 4 and 5 in English and mathematics. I believe in a ‘can do culture’ and that good attitudes to learning will lead to success.

Many pupils I speak to have high aspirations for the future and we encourage all of them to want successful careers. It is important that young people in our school community are enthusiastic, happy and successful learners, ready to move onto the next stage of their lives.  Put simply we want to create lifelong learners, who are able to respond to a changing world.

Pupils feel safe and supported at Westborough High School.  There is a calm, warm and purposeful atmosphere and it is a special place to be. Pupils are polite, friendly and respectful to staff and to each other. Behaviour is excellent and pupils are rewarded for making the right choices.  Parents are very supportive of the school and we work together to encourage our young people to succeed.

At Westborough High School, pupils have the opportunity to take part in a wide range of activities to help them become fully rounded individuals, including science clubs, school productions, sports clubs and university visits.  We want this to add to the range of activities available to them in the wider community.

Part of our ethos is to increase the confidence of pupils outside of school life and we encourage all pupils to take part in competitions. We regularly enter competitions and regularly win them!  Pupils thoroughly enjoy this aspect of school life and are proud of their achievements.

Being an active part of the local community is key to the success of any school and this is an area I continue to develop so the school and the community keep working in partnership to ensure the best education for our young people.

Also the school is a member of The Dewsbury Learning Trust, partnered with the University of Huddersfield, Heckmondwike Grammar School, Kirklees College and Kirklees Council.  This means we can work together to provide the best for our pupils.  It is a ‘Partnership of Strengths.’

We have high expectations and want all our pupils to achieve and enjoy their time at Westborough High School.   We very much look forward to showing you what our school has to offer.
