Westborough Goes Split Site

Mrs L Tempest enjoyed her first week as the Associate  Headteacher; Head of the new Halifax Road Campus which became part of Westborough on 1st September 2011.  The restructuring of education in Dewsbury has seen the former Birkdale school become part of Westborough.  Mrs Tempest commented on how smart students looked on their first day and how friendly students and staff had been.

Staff across both sites are excited about the future of Westborough and are confident that Westborough’s students on both sites will excel in the coming terms.  If you are interested in finding out what is happening at Westborough why not come to our Open Day on 6th October 2011 which will take place on the Stockhill Street Campus.

Arts Week

Friday 8th July saw the start of 2011′s year 7 ‘Arts and Aspiration’s Week’. This involved all the year 7 students taking part in various different practical activities, ranging from Circus Skills and Dance Music Production, through to Brazilian Dance and African Drumming.  There were also 4 aspirational guest speakers who spoke to the students about their own wide ranging life experiences, from being a professional boxer through to a Royal Navy Submarine Technician.  The whole week was designed as a way of showing students that they could be successful in whatever they chose to do, with hard work and practice. The students were invited to give their feedback, and comments from them included, “All the practitioners tried hard to show us new skills”, “I really enjoyed learning new things – I didn’t know I would be any good at them!” and “This would be great if we could do this every day!”  Coming soon – Arts Week gallery.

My Experience of Cadbury World

The Business and Entreprise Faculty ran their annual trip to to Cadbury World alongside their Enterprise Event.  You can see the gallery here.  The students enjoyed it too as one wrote:

“Three days ago I went to a magnificent lively and excellent place called Cadbury world. It was like a planet of chocolate so heavenly and great to see. I especially enjoyed it and it was the best experience ever. I saw some cartoon characters and best of all I got free chocolate. I really love chocolate and going to Cadbury world I have now learnt where chocolate comes from and were it was discovered. Some of my best teachers went and I enjoyed it. I took many pictures and I am going to put them in a frame for memory. My inspiration for chocolate is Cadbury I bought their speciality which was milk chocolate; wonderful to eat and enjoy. I brought lots of gifts and I really appreciated it. It turned out better than I thought and I am over the moon that I went to the world of Cadbury.”
