Choosing a secondary school is one of the most important decisions that parents make. I hope that the information you find on our website will encourage you to choose Westborough a Specialist School for Business Enterprise and the Arts. A warm welcome awaits everyone at Westborough High School.
We believe that we provide a very high quality comprehensive education for students aged 11-16. We continue to offer a variety of pathways to academic success, meeting the needs of every student and allowing them to develop their talents and abilities to the full in an environment that values them all as individuals.
As a specialist college for Business Enterprise and the Arts we offer a well planned curriculum and we are very successful in developing our students into creative and enterprising young people – making a difference to their future. Indeed, OFSTED noted that:
“Careers education and guidance is good and most students, 91% in 2008, progress to further education, employment or training. This is impressive in an environment of very high local unemployment.” OFSTED 2009
As part of a newly formed Dewsbury Learning Trust we are now partnered with The University of Huddersfield, Heckmondwike Grammar School, Kirklees College and Kirklees Council to form a ‘Partnership of Strengths’ which will support the school in its continuing improvement journey.
We are committed to learning success for all – students, staff and the wider community and aim to enable all who learn with us to achieve to the best of their ability. We wish to be a true community school, for the benefit of the whole community rather than just a school in the community.
We expect our students to work hard. We expect our parents to support us in encouraging their children to develop the competencies and skills needed to achieve success. We want to work in partnership with parents, guardians and carers to ensure that we build together positive home-school relationships.
For those of you who know us well, it goes without saying that the work the school does in partnership with others to promote learners well being is outstanding and was judged as such by OFSTED in our 2009 inspection. The school was also awarded a certificate in 2009 by the SSAT entitled “Most Improved Specialist School Award” which formally recognised the progress our school has made.
It is a privilege to work closely with the families of all our students to try to ensure that they all enjoy and achieve and make a successful transition from school into adult and working life.
Finally, I’d like to say that, as Headteacher of Westborough, I’m tremendously proud of the progress the school is making and look forward to continuing to build further on those achievements. You are very welcome to make an appointment to come to see us at the school. We’ll be pleased to show you around.
