WORK RELATED, ENTERPRISE, CAREERS AND VOCATIONAL EDUCATION

What happens in Year 10 and 11?

Students undertake a variety of initiatives during these important two years.  The BTEC course in Business is a vocational two-year course that develops not only students’ entrepreneurial capabilities but also their problem solving, communication and team-working skills.  It is worth two GCSEs and covers a whole range of business concepts from financial management to setting up your own business.  The Asdan Work Related Learning course in Year 10 helps prepare students for the world of work whilst at the same time provides them with an extra qualification that will greatly increase their employability.  The Work Experience Programme in Year 11 gives students a taste of the real world and enables them to identify possible career opportunities.  The Careers Programme is continuous throughout Years 10 and 11 and provides students with a comprehensive career planning service.  Students will also have access to a Personal Adviser from Calderdale and Kirklees Careers for expert guidance and support.  The Personal Adviser will continue to support students after they have left Year 11 until they are settled in a new destination.

How do we help students achieve their potential?

Various activities, initiatives and events take place within the context of Work Related, Enterprise, Careers and Vocational Education that enable students to develop both academically and personally.  Their overall experience is one of personal growth and enrichment; and it is this philosophy the school has adopted in order that students leave Westborough the best prepared citizens they can be.

Extra-Curricular Activities

A wide range of extra-curricular activities are made available to students which include school visits and Enterprise events such as motivational speakers working with students on specific projects.
