What happens in Years 10 and 11?
At the beginning of Year 10, we learn the very basic knowledge of Urdu. By the end of Year 10, we are competent to speak in an Urdu speaking country or in an Urdu speaking community. We learn basic level vocabulary at this stage that enables us to understand Urdu films, plays and songs. These resources help us to complete coursework and develop a real working knowledge of grammar.
The introduction of ICT and use of Urdu software will play an important role in developing our writing and reading skills further.
Year 11 is concerned with learning the examinations techniques, with practice in each skill but specifically spoken and written Urdu. The language skills improve by using video cassettes and text books in school. Internet and e-mail facilities will help to produce a good standard of coursework and encourage the students to increase their knowledge of Urdu.
How do we help you achieve your potential?
We have Urdu speaking support staff who can guide you with coursework and show you how and where to find resources. We are constantly gathering more teaching materials together. There will always be extended reading writing and listening materials.
How can you help at home?
Do your homework thoroughly and always make use of Urdu speakers in the community to explain the difficulties you have and to give you all the speaking practice you need. Borrow as many newspapers and video films as you can.
