RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

What happens in Year 7?

Students follow an experiential course that aims to introduce the six major world
religions.  Religious Education lessons provide the opportunity to learn about the
principal religions represented in the school, the community, the United Kingdom
and the wider world.  Students are taught in Form Groups in Years 7 and 8 and in
Year 9 are setted for one period each week.

What happens in Years 10 and 11?

Students in Year 10 and 11 take a short course GCSE in Religious Education.

How do we help your child achieve their potential?

Religious Education is taught in a specialist classroom with a range of different
resources including ICT and video.  Visits are provided to religious centres and
outside speakers and visitors are used to enhance pupil learning.  Assessment
tasks and end of unit tests inform students of their progress and targets are set to
encourage further progress.

How can you help at home?

Encourage your child to talk about what they have learnt.  Discuss relevant issues
with them and encourage them to develop their own opinions.

Who should you talk to if you want more information?

Mrs N Colloby  -  Religious Education Subject Leader
Mrs E White -  Assistant Headteacher

Parents do have the right to withdraw students from lessons in Religious
Education.  Before doing so we ask that they look at the programme of study, and
discuss their concerns with us.  Students that are withdrawn are supervised whilst
they undertake individual, private study.
