FACULTY OF EXPRESSIVE ARTS: PERFORMING ARTS
What happens in Year 10 and 11
Performing Arts is an option at Years 10 and 11. The course is made up of 3 units, one mandatory and two specialists units. The specialists units enable students to study particular areas in more depth. As is the case with KS3, students focus on all the performing arts.
How do we help you achieve your potential
Every pupil at Westborough has the opportunity to take part in performing arts. As well as having single arts lessons at KS3, the students have the opportunity to take part in a large selection of extra curricular clubs ranging from DJ to Rap, Bollywood dance to street dance, drama clubs and even learning how to organise their own drama company. Performing arts has its own rehearsal after school session for one hour each week.

YOUNG PERSONS’ ARTS AWARD
What happens in Year 9?
Every student in Year 9 will be entered into the Young Persons’ Arts Award to partake in the Bronze Level Award. This is a nationally recognised qualification, equivalent to level 1 of the National Qualifications Framework. It will give students a chance to study the ‘Arts’ as a whole, encompassing art, music, dance and drama allowing them to work to their strengths.
What happens in Years 10 and 11?
Currently we are piloting the YPAA only in Year 9 but there are plans to offer YPAA Silver Award as an extra curricular activity next year for students who have really enjoyed the Bronze Level.
How do we help you achieve your potential?
The nature of the YPAA is very much one of student led choice. With support from the entire faculty, students can approach teachers from their preferred area of the arts for specialist advice. Lunchtime drop in sessions on Fridays are available for any student who needs extra support.
