FACULTY OF EXPRESSIVE ARTS: MUSIC

What happens in Year 7?

Students are taught Music in their tutor groups.  The course involves an
interesting, exciting and fun approach to the subject.  A lot of theory is covered in
Year 7 through practical work, including the basics of musical notation.  Students
work as a class, in groups and in pairs.  There is also plenty of opportunity for
practical music making.

What happens in Year 10 and 11?

Music becomes an option in Year 10 and 11 and gives students the opportunity to
further their skills in performing, composing and listening.  Sixty percent of this
GCSE is coursework which is assessed and then moderated.

How do we help your child achieve their potential?

Every pupil at Westborough receives a music education in Years 7-9.  It allows the
development of a variety of skills that are essential to life in school and in the
world outside.  These include teamwork, self-discipline, self-motivation and
confidence.  Students are taught using a variety of teaching and learning styles,
including working as a class, an individual and in groups.

Extra-curricular activities/Instrumental lessons

There are varieties of music groups at Westborough.  These include choir, band,
junior band, samba band, plus DJ and rap classes and a variety of opportunities to
learn musical instruments.  There are also regular opportunities to perform in
concerts, productions, assemblies and in the community.
