FACULTY OF EXPRESSIVE ARTS: DRAMA

What happens in Year 7?

Students will be taught drama in tutor groups.  The course is very practical – drama is used as a way of learning about real issues and students learn to develop their ideas and their devising skills.  They learn to co-operate and work closely with other members of the class.

What happens in Years 10 and 11?

Drama is a very popular choice for students in Years 10 and 11.  It is an exciting
and challenging course where students build on their drama skills and also study
the work of modern playwrights.  Coursework accounts for 60% of the final
grade.  Forty percent of marks are awarded for a final performance.

How do we help students achieve their full potential?

Every pupil at Westborough receives the opportunity to take part in Drama.
Students will work as a class, in groups and in pairs, constantly developing skills
that are vital in all aspects of school life, such as, speaking, co-operating,
organising and planning.  Students share their views and opinions on important
and interesting topics.  It also provides an opportunity to develop an
understanding of the world outside school.

Extra-Curricular activities

The Drama Department provides the opportunity to take part in a wide range of
activities.   Students are encouraged to show their drama skills in concerts,
plays,  assemblies and Key Skills Days and in the wider community.  There is
also an annual school production which is open to all.  Theatre trips are
organised every term to give students the opportunity to see live theatre.
