In year 10 students will follow the recommendations of the Entry Level Certificate in Science. Entry Level Certificate in Science is designed as an alternative qualification that offers candidates, who find GCSE Science difficult, the opportunity to achieve a certificated award. The course covers the KS4 Programme of Study, and consists of nine units. Of these, 5 units are assessed with certification at three levels (1, 2 or 3) being awarded. Each unit is assessed through an Externally-Set Assignment (ESA) and a Teacher-Devised Assessment (TDA).

In the final term of Year 10 and into Year 11, students will be offered GCSE Additional Applied Science – This is a VOCATIONAL science and is based on every day science. 

GCSE Additional Applied Science is assessed through a one hour, tiered paper (‘Science at Work’ – 40%). In addition to this there are two portfolio units – ‘Science in the Workplace’ (20%) and ‘Using Scientific Skills’ (40%).
