GCSE PHYSICAL EDUCATION STUDIES

(Option Subject)

Exam Board: AQA

The Leisure industry is one of the country’s largest employers and Sports Studies is becoming increasing popular as a course in its own right at Universities and Colleges.

Anyone who is wishing to move into these areas of study should seriously considered taking GCSE PE Studies.

The GCSE PE Studies course includes both practical work and a study.

Assessment

  • Practical 50%
  • Examination 30%
  • PE Study (Analytical Investigation) 20%

Practical

This runs alongside the practical work you will do in core PE studies.  The practical work will include:

• Football • Rugby League
• Basketball • Hockey
• Netball • Rounders
• Badminton • Cricket
• Athletics • Table Tennis
• Other activities • Summerhill and Moorlands Walking.

Depending on the size of the group you may be able to choose what activities you would like to do.

The practical is part of the course that gives you the most marks, so if you really enjoy practical PE then the GCSE PE Studies course is a real challenge that you might like to consider.

Theory

The theory work looks at matters including health related exercise, leisure opportunities, training methods, facilities, disability and sport, sponsorship, sport and the media, coaching and safe practice.

Study (Analytical)

The study involves taking a group of students in a chose sport and improving their performance through coaching sessions and tests.
