APPLIED GCSE Health And Social Care

This course offers you the opportunity to develop skills, knowledge and understanding, which will prepare you for entry into employment in the Health and Social Care Sector.

What will I study

Units include:

  • Child development and child care
  • Dealing with hazards and emergencies
  • Health, social care and early years provision
  • Human behaviour in care settings
  • Introducing human body systems
  • Meeting the needs of individuals in care settings
  • Practical caring skills
  • Promoting health and well-being
  • Understanding personal development
  • Factors that influence person development

You will make visits to a variety of care services/providers as part of your studies.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed on a portfolio of work (throughout year 10 and 11) this will make up 67% of your double grade. In year 11 you will take a 90 minute written exam paper.

What can I do when I finish the course?

You can progress on to other qualifications in Health and Social Care, the Diploma in Child Care or to training and employment in health related or caring professions such as care assistant, health support worker, assistant social worker, special needs supporter or residential work in day care, health care and residential care.

You can also go on to college to do an Advanced Course in this subject.
