Careers Prospects

The European Community has undoubtedly created a lot of job opportunities both in the UK and Europe, where a qualification in a Modern Foreign Language is essential, particularly if you are choosing BUSINESS and/or TRAVEL & TOURISM as an option.

A qualification in Urdu will help you gain employment in areas such as hospitals, the Social Services and community organisations.  A University Degree in French or Urdu will really open up many career prospects.

It is a well-known fact that University Graduates command really high salaries and are very rarely unemployed.

If your teacher has told you that you have the STRENGTH IN MODERN LANGUAGES you should consider taking one of the courses on offer.

Assessment

You will undertake coursework and examinations.  The coursework will be based on themes, which are relevant and interesting to you.

Learning a language makes our minds stronger and more flexible.  Actually using it gives us an entirely new experience of the world (John Cleese)

 

VIPS

Exam Board:   OCR

Vocational course in Business French leading to level 1 or 2 NVQ.

This course offers ideal preparation for using languages in the workplace.

There are no exams and the ethos of the course is to help students achieve in each module covering business etiquette and skills within topics of direct relevance.

  • Greetings, jobs & company structure.
  • Family and interests.
  • Hotel bookings and travel arrangements.
  • Dealing with visitors to a company and visiting a company.
  • At the restaurant.
  • Communications by telephone, fax, email & formal letter.

This course offers ample ICT opportunities and one or more business visits.

Work is assessed through a portfolio.  Students receive regular feedback on progress and how to improve.  Level 1 achievement earns equivalent points to Grade D GCSE.  Level 2 earns equivalent points of grade B GCSE.

There may well be opportunity to achieve level 1 or 2 in Business German or Business Spanish, once one level of French has been achieved.
