GCSE DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY - FOOD

This course will give you opportunities for practical designing and making, but will concentrate on food product design, development and production.

You will be given projects that allow you to develop your drawing and presentation, practical and ICT skills as well as identifying and developing ideas of your own.  The projects include the design, development and manufacture of many food products including breads, main course meals, snacks, desserts, cakes and pastries.

This course will give you the opportunity to study many aspects of food, including setting up a mini enterprise, outside visits to industry as well as food production and manufacture.

In Year 11 you will complete your major coursework project which represents 60% of your GCSE Grade.  You will be given a CHOICE in the project that you do.  It could be:

  • Design, develop and make a NEW FOOD PRODUCT of your choice e.g. low fat vegetarian main course or healthy option cake.

Or

  • Set up a NEW FOOD OUTLET of your choice.

 

Both allow you to investigate the world of business, the food industry and equip you with essential life skills.

Assessment

Coursework 60%
Examination 40%

There are two levels of entry for the final examinations

  • Higher Level – GCSE Grades A* to D
  • Foundation Level – GCSE Grades C - G
