WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?

The course will appeal to those of you who are interested in following a career in hairdressing and/or beauty therapy, or if you would simply like to learn more about working in those industries.  Some time on the course will be spent in Dewsbury College’s ‘Serenity’ beauty salon.

WHAT WILL I DO ON THE COURSE?

You will learn about:      

  • Customer services
  • Basic salon reception duties
  • Personal presentation
  • Health and safety
  • Hairdressing services
  • Applying basic make-up
  • Providing basic manicure

HOW DO I GET ON THIS COURSE?

You should have a keen interest in learning about the hair and beauty industries.  A good report from your school including good attendance and punctuality.  An aim to achieve at least D grades at GCSE.

WHAT WILL I ACHIEVE?

City and Guilds Level 1 in Salon Services.

HOW WILL THE COURSE BE ASSESSED?

There is an assignment and/or an observation of practical work for each of the 7 units.  There is a 1 hour multiple-choice question paper towards the end of the course.

WHAT CAN I DO AFTER THE COURSE?

After the course you can continue to gain further qualifications in hair and/or beauty.  The level of course that you will be able to progress on to will also depend on your GCSE grades.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW?

Some of your time at College will be spent in the Serenity Beauty Salon, and you may be expected to wear a uniform at these times.  Further information about this will be given to you when you come to the College for a taster session before you start the course.  You need to be prepared to work hard, as working in a salon can be very demanding.
