BTEC FIRST CERTIFICATE IN DANCE
(Option Subject)

Exam Board: Edexcel

You will learn technical dance skills and the art of choreography skills.  The course covers contemporary dance techniques and various dance styles. 

What Will I Learn?

  • The purpose of the course is to enable students to be trained to a good standard in Dance.  The work covers three elements – Techniques, Choreography and Performance.
  • You will study a number of dance styles.
  • You will learn physical skills such as posture, alignment, balance, co-ordination, flexibility, strength and body awareness.
  • Choreographic devices such as motif, development, repetition, contrast, highlights, proportion and balance.

Content

The course consists of three areas of study:

  • Body workshop
  • Understanding Dance
  • Dance Performance

Assessment

Assessment is via assignments and projects. There are no exams at the end of course.

Coursework is continuous throughout the Years 10 and 11, therefore you will have to work hard and keep to deadlines.

The BTEC First Certificate in Dance is a SINGLE OPTION course that is the equivalent to TWO GCSEs at Grades A to G.
