GCSE ART AND DESIGN

(Option Subject)

Exam Board: AQA

Students choosing Art will be required to develop an understanding of art, craft and design through the practical activities of making and investigating.  They will also be involved in evaluating their own work, the work of other artists and crafts persons from different periods, cultures and traditions.

Students will be required to work in two or more of the following areas:

Drawing

Painting

Graphics

Three Dimensional Studies

 

Coursework

The coursework will consist of work produced by the candidate during both Years 10 and 11.  It will be assessed and marked by the teacher during the course and then eventually externally moderated by the examiner at the end of Year 11.

Coursework is worth 60% of the marks and must consist of a minimum of three assignments.

Examination 40% of the marks and this consists of one assignment completed in 10 hours of supervised school time, during the Spring Term in Year 11.

Art and Design students develop excellent skills in working independently, creatively, analysing, thinking and decision-making.  These skills will be invaluable to you in your chosen career whether it is in the field of Art and Design or another career area.
